We call on our members to support the Hīkoi mō Te Tiriti taking place next week (10 - 19 November) organised by Toitū Te Tiriti. This kaupapa is tupuna inspired, Tiriti-led, mana motuhake-driven and mokopuna-focused. The intent is to demonstrate a unified Aotearoa response to the Government’s attack on Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Bills come and go, Te Tiriti is forever. There is a place for everyone to support the hīkoi. All the details you need to know are here. More about how we are getting behind this is below.
With the threats to climate action internationally, local and domestic action is crucial. We are an organisation committed to being in a good relationship with each other and as part of the environment. We are hugely grateful to our members for choosing to stand together for a fairer and flourishing Aotearoa.
Ngā mihi nui,

Sign our Open Letter: OraTaiao call for a united health sector in opposition to the Treaty Principles Bill
An extraordinary assault on Te Tiriti is underway. The Treaty Principles Bill (“the Bill”), will be read in Parliament this week. The government has brought forward the introduction of the Treaty Principles Bill to the 7th of November (today), having originally said it would be introduced later this month. The threats posed by the Bill are alarming not only to the health sector but threaten to unravel the social, political, and environmental fabric of Aotearoa NZ.
The health sector represents a significant and respected body and we must come together at this time. We call on you, your organisation, and your profession to act now as proud supporters of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
You can get further involved in this process by providing a written statement of support, and/or connecting us with a potential spokesperson to provide commentary for a press release.
Get in touch with any whakaaro or feedback, or join our next working group zoom - happening on Thursday, 21 November at 4.30 pm.

We encourage you to join Tauiwi Tautoko, who are hosting an online session on Monday 11th, at 6 pm to help you practice having conversations with others about why supporting Te Tiriti o Waitangi and opposing the Treaty Principles Bill is important.
We are grateful for your support in building a movement where equitable health and climate action thrive within a Te Tiriti-honouring future.
Transport working group update
The transport working group had a great meeting in October. Exciting plans are underway for the new year. These include creating campaigns, resources, submissions, and promoting Workride. This work is informed by great toolkits produced by The Workshop, such as Shifting the narrative - four effective strategies for talking about transport systems designed for people and planet. If you would like to get involved, email Steve to be added to the working group.

It is hugely positive to see Auckland Council prioritising safe, healthy, and climate-friendly transport choices despite central government cuts to low-emissions active transport. We must continue to support the councillors in getting behind cycleways and investing in this process.
