OraTaiao: The NZ Climate and Health Council works to highlight in Aotearoa New Zealand and globally:
- The negative impacts of climate change on health.
- Health sector carbon reduction and sustainability.
- The health and equity gains from health-centred climate action, for example transformed food systems.
- The impacts of climate change on those that already experience disadvantage or ill-health (equity impacts).
We also do work to inform NZ's contribution to international climate action; highlight the climate and wider health impacts of fossil fuels; the impact of trade agreements on the ability to regulate for climate protection; and the impact of climate change on human rights and the right to health, including for indigenous peoples and children.
We are part of a worldwide movement of health professionals and health organisations urgently focusing on the health challenges of climate change and the health opportunities of climate action. The Council is a not-for-profit, politically non-partisan incorporated society.
