The UN Human Rights Council recognises climate change as a human rights issue

In 2009 the UN Human Rights Council passed a resolution that noted that “climate change-related impacts have a range of implications, both direct and indirect, for the effective enjoyment of human rights …” and that such effects “will be felt most acutely by those segments of the population who are already in a vulnerable situation ….”

In 2014 the Harvard Health and Human Rights Journal had a special issue on climate justice and the right to health in which OraTaiao had a leading edge paper entitled 'Climate change and the right to health for Māori in Aotearoa/New Zealand.
